(Orlando, FL – April 22, 2008) – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra has selected a stellar line-up of dancers to be featured at its popular Springs Concert 2008: Dancing Under the Stars. This outdoor concert featuring the Orlando Philharmonic performing on a stage built right on the beautiful Sanlando Springs is held on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at The Springs Community, 400 Woodbridge Road, Longwood. Gates open at 5:00 PM. The concert begins at 8:00 PM.
Now in its fifth year, this year’s event promises to be more entertaining than ever as the Orlando Philharmonic takes you Dancing Under the Stars. On the program is a variety of contemporary and classic dance music like the lively and flirtatious cha cha, the smooth sounds of the foxtrot, the swinging sounds of the jive, the sensuous sounds of the Latin dances – like the mambo, samba, and tango, and the music of the ever-popular and elegant waltz. Andrew Lane, Principal Pops and Resident Conductor, leads the orchestra in the evening’s program. Marc Hagle, Orlando Philharmonic Board member and President and CEO of Tricor International Corporation, makes his conducting debut on one of the evening’s well-known tunes. The entertainment is highlighted with a dance contest featuring some of the most recognizable faces in the community paired with dancers from area Arthur Murray Dance Studios.
Featured dancers are Bob Frier, evening anchor of WKMG Local 6; Val Demings, City of Orlando Chief of Police; Margot Knight, President and CEO of United Arts; John Casebier, President of the Winter Park branch of the First Commercial Bank of Florida and Eleanor Meiner, community philanthropist.
Costumes for our dancers are provided by COCO'S Ballroom Boutique of Winter Park. The exclusive retailers of TV’s Dancing with the Stars costumes, COCO’S Ballroom Boutique dresses have been worn by Cheryl Burke, Ashley del Grosso, Karina Smirnoff, Anna Trebunskaya, Sarah Evans and Lisa Rinna. The costume Eleanor Meiner will be wearing was worn by Monica Seles in the current season of Dancing with the Stars.
And what would a celebrity dance contest be without celebrity judges! Our judges include Dave Collins and Leslye Gale of Magic 107.7 FM and Kimberley Carroll of Arthur Murray Dance Studios. Carroll, owner of four Arthur Murray studios in the Central Florida area, has been in the dance business for over 20 years. One of the top women in the Arthur Murray International organization, she currently travels throughout the U.S. coaching Arthur Murray staff, teaching and training dancers for competition.
