The Orlando Philharmonic joins forces with the Bach Festival Choir to present Verdi's Requiem

(Orlando, FL – April 16, 2008) – In an historic first, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bach Festival Choir combine forces to present Giuseppe Verdi’s powerful and moving work, Requiem. The concert takes place on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 8:00 PM at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando. The concert is sponsored by MSCW.

Maestro Christopher Wilkins conducts the Philharmonic and the Bach Festival Choir, Dr. John V. Sinclair, Artistic Director and Conductor, in this powerful work described by Hans von Bülow as “opera in church vestments.” The music begins in hushed, prayerful tones, and closes with an impassioned plea for salvation. In its most famous “scene,” trumpets surround the audience as if on Judgement Day – a representation to rival Michaelangelo’s.

The Philharmonic is honored to collaborate with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park for this concert program. Wilkins says, “For years, the Bach Festival has set the standard for choral singing in this region. Dr. Sinclair has built an ensemble of the first rank, and the performances they give enjoy a sterling reputation. I am excited about the first collaboration ever between these two important musical groups. The Verdi Requiem demands so much of all performers: dynamic and emotional range; power and subtlety; and the ability to convey drama, as the work itself is so explicitly theatrical.”

We hope that you will join us for this exciting collaborative concert performance. Tickets are $13, $26, $36, $48 and $62. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 407-770-0071, or on line at www.OrlandoPhil.org.
