(Orlando, FL - February 28, 2008) - The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra proudly announces the 2008-2009 season of its acclaimed flagship series, formerly known as Phil at Carr – featuring a new name! The Philharmonic's 10- concert Super Series is named in anticipation of the Philharmonic’s move to the New Performing Arts Center in 2012. This series continues to highlight the best of classical and pops repertoire featuring the fabulous Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra with a host of acclaimed guest artists, along with the conducting of Music Director Christopher Wilkins and Principal Pops and Resident Conductor Andrew Lane. All concerts are held at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando.
The Super Series is comprised of ten concerts and features four matinee performances, offering numerous entertainment options to appeal to a variety of musical tastes and busy schedules. This season’s offerings include the works of popular composers such as Brahms, Mozart, Strauss, Verdi, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich – a feast for lovers of classical music. Classical concerts feature critically acclaimed guests artists The U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, Andre Watts and Joyce Yang. The Philharmonic’s concertmaster Tamas Kocsis steps into the spotlight this season to perform Brahm’s Violin Concerto. And we proudly collaborate with the Orange County History Center for a program honoring the great Abraham Lincoln, featuring the photochoreography of James Westwater.
The Pops side of the Super Series offers a line-up of musical experiences that are so fun and entertaining, you may want to go to both the matinee and evening performances! Our line-up of guest artists includes Michael Andrew and Swingerhead, and, back by popular demand, the vocal group Five by Design. Highlighting the series is a collaboration with Mad Cow Theater for the semi-staged musical version of Sweeney Todd – with Broadway Star Davis Gaines in the lead role!
To enhance the enjoyment and understanding of each program, a pre-concert "Conversation" is held one hour before the performance, backstage at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. These popular conversations are free to all ticket-holders.
Subscription seating is available in a variety of package options. Subscribers can choose from a ten-concert, five-concert pops, five-concert classics, five-concert matinee (There is no matinee performance of concert #7, Sweeney Todd with Davis Gaines & Mad Cow Theatre. Instead, an additional performance is held on Friday evening, March 6, 2009, at 8:00 PM) or a three, four, five or six-concert "Create Your Own" subscription. Subscribers receive numerous benefits, including being among the first to choose their seats, a significant savings over single ticket prices, and invitations to exclusive events.
