The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents Aaron Copland: Sound, Spirit & Image

(Orlando, FL – February 13, 2008) - The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents Aaron Copland: Sound, Spirit & Image, the third concert in this season's Focus Series. The concert takes place on Monday, March 10 at 7:00 PM in the Margeson Theater in the Lowndes Shakespeare Center.

Conducted and hosted by Maestro Christopher Wilkins, the program features outstanding chamber orchestra repertoire by composers Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, Stephen Paulus and Orlando native Carl Maultsby. Maestro Wilkins, enhancing the music with an educational element, peppers the program with discourse about the history and nuances of the composers and their works.

On the program are several works by Aaron Copland including John Henry, Old American Songs and works of the composer that have discovered new audiences as movie themes. Also on the program is Samuel Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and Stephen Paulus' Voices from the Gallery.

Featured on the program is an original work by composer Carl Maultsby, titled Eye of the Sparrow: Prologue. Maultsby, an Orlando native, attended Jones High School. He has since become an acclaimed composer of chamber and orchestral music in addition to music for movies and musical theater.

Joining Maestro Wilkins and the Philharmonic is soprano Tiffany Jackson. Ms. Jackson has been featured in numerous Opera productions and has also enjoyed a successful career performing with orchestras worldwide.

Tickets are available for $37 and $27. To purchase tickets, phone 407-770-0071 or visit www.OrlandoPhil.org.
