The Orlando Philharmonic Honors America's Greatest Generation with the Nostalgic Program, Radio Days

(Orlando, FL – November 7, 2007) – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra travels back in time to 1941 for the fifth concert in its acclaimed Phil at Carr Series, titled Radio Days. The concert takes place on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando. A matinee performance is held at 2:00 PM, and an evening performance is held at 8:00 PM.

Travel back to circa 1941, where radio, music and WWII were deeply interwoven into the fabric of America’s tapestry for a phenomenal program of nostalgia honoring America’s greatest generation. Headlining the performance is the popular vocal group, Five By Design. Featuring the vocals of Lorie Carpenter-Niska, Sheridan Zuther, Kurt Niska, Michael Swedberg, and Terrence Niska, Five By Design recreates a poignant time capsule of American life during the war years. As Sentimental Journey opens the production, the audience is transported to a seemingly simpler time when an evening’s entertainment emanated from the amber glow of vacuum tubes in a wooden cabinet.

Radio Days is an affectionate look at the children’s programming, soap operas, game shows, adventure serials, commercials, and the songs that were etched in the nation’s psyche.

Combining musical selections with celebrity appearances from big band leader Kay Kyser, Betty Grable, and the diva of the tutti-frutti hat, Carmen Miranda, Five By Design has meticulously crafted a musical retrospective from radio’s golden age. The show reaches its climax as a soldier and his bride embrace for a farewell dance to I’ll Be Seeing You. So climb aboard the Chattanooga Choo-Choo as Five By Design’s Radio Days takes its audiences on a ride over the radio airwaves!

You won’t want to miss this incomparable evening of music and nostalgia. Tickets to Radio Days are $13, $26, $36, $48 and $62. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 407-770-0071, or on line at www.OrlandoPhil.org.
