(Orlando, FL – September 4, 2007) - Casa de Mexico celebrates its Gala of Mexican Independence on September 15 at 8:00 PM at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre with a stellar concert experience for the whole family. The Orlando Philharmonic is honored to be performing again this year with Casa de Mexico in the annual concert. Maestro Andrew Lane and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra take the stage to perform with celebrated artists Mariachi Cobre and tenor Armando Mora. Featured works include Himno Nacional Mexicano, The Flower Song from Carmen, The Mexican Hat Dance featuring Katia Garza of Orlando Ballet, and several selections to be performed by Mariachi Cobre.
Casa de Mexico promotes the rich culture and traditions of Mexico in Orlando and throughout Central Florida. As a non-profit organization, the funds raised at this annual event support their mission and also benefit Mexican Farm Workers and laborers who live in our community and whose hard work helps build and feed our entire nation. “When the farm laborers are ill or have an accident they come to Casa de Mexico for medical assistance,” explains Casa de Mexico’s Executive Director Blanquita Trabold. “That is why this concert is so very important. The funds raised from the concert will help us welcome them with open hearts and helping hands in their time of need and help create a better tomorrow not only for them but our entire community.”
Mariachi Cobre is very pleased to participate with Casa de Mexico and the Orlando Philharmonic for the second year running. Their appearance marks their first collaboration with Maestro Andrew Lane in bringing the traditional sounds of Mexico right here to Bob Carr. Over the past two decades, the 36- year-old Mariachi Cobre has delighted symphonic pops audiences with a unique blend of symphonic orchestra and mariachi. They have played dates with 36 orchestras in the United States and Mexico including Boston, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Louisville, San Antonio and Guadalajara to name a few.
A native of Jalapa, Veracruz, Armando Mora has appeared with the Royal Opera in Denmark, Opera House in Cape Town South Africa, Bonn Opera, Stuttgart Opera in Germany, Zurich Companion Opera Company in Switzerland, Cyprus Opera Theatre, Croatia Opera House, in Europe.
