(Orlando, FL – August 1, 2007) - The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents the final concert in its 2007 Sounds of Summer Series, titled Around the World in 80 Minutes. The program takes place on Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 7:00 PM in the Margeson Theater at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando.
Performing this energetic program is the popular Sovereign Brass ensemble, who is known to breathe fresh life into the otherwise serious world of brass and chamber music. The Sovereign Brass invites you to pack your bags and join them on a musical travelogue around the world featuring music from the far corners of the globe. Our musical travelers have collected folk songs and classical music from many nations and cultures - from Tchaikovsky to Thailand; Copland to the Congo. Enjoy music from all corners of the earth including Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets and Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5. We will hear the Grecian-inspired Zorba’s Dance, enjoy the Canadian folk songs of the Suite from the Monterigian Hills and visit Ireland for a brass rendition of the beloved Danny Boy, in addition to many other musical works in this program filled with the Sovereign Brass’ lighthearted humor and virtuosic performances.
Comprising the Sovereign Brass are Mike Avila and Thomas Macklin, trumpets; Jeffrey Thomas, trombone; Kathleen Thomas, French horn, Ed Firth, tuba; and Mark Goldberg, percussion. The goal of the Sovereign Brass is to bring the highest quality music to the widest possible audience and to present this music in a way that is both entertaining and fun.
