(Orlando, FL – June 14, 2007) – Orlando Philharmonic musician Daniel Flick has created another program filled with musical excitement and fun for the Philharmonic’s Sounds of Summer Series. The program, titled Italia “La Più Bella,” takes place on Thursday, July 5 at 7:00 PM in the Margeson Theater in the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando.
Italia “La Più Bella” is a musical celebration of a day in Italy – from sunrise to moonrise, with beautiful Italian music of a variety of styles and various periods in time. The program begins with an Italian sunrise, “La Più Bella,” (The prettiest) and takes us through a day in the life – we’ll go to church, visit beautiful Italian gardens, the ocean, the marketplace, the movies, a concert, and then out to dance under the stars. Works of the classic Italian masters, Corelli, Tartini, Vivaldi, and Boccherini, will be accompanied by Italian folk music favorites ranging in flavor from “la Sole alla Luna” (the Sun to the Moon). These works will be brought to life on traditional Italian instruments including mandolin, accordion, classical guitar, string trio along with two sopranos.
“While researching Italian music for this program, I realized that there are really two things that Italians write about: love and death,” says Flick. “And even the songs about death are about love. So this program is filled with songs of love.”
Performing on the program are Daniel Flick, violin/mandolin/guitar; Julia Gessinger, violin; Susan Goldman, cello; Bobby Brennan, bass; Nino Cuomo, vocals/guitar/narration; Jim Horzen, accordion, Ashley Lockheed and Karey Glennon, soprano; and Mark Goldberg, percussion.
