(Orlando, FL – May 22, 2007) - The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra continues its tradition of fabulous musical experiences all summer long with its 2007 Sounds of Summer Series. The series begins on Thursday, June 21 at 7:00 PM with Young Ludwig’s Greatest Hits. This season the Sounds of Summer Series moves to the Margeson Theater in the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando. This change enables our patrons to have reserved seating with a great view of the musicians from every seat.
The series begins with Young Ludwig’s Greatest Hits, a program devoted to the music of Beethoven as a young man in Vienna between 1794 and 1801. During this time his popularity soared due to his piano playing, improvisational talent, and many of his compositions. Maestro Christopher Wilkins leads musicians from the Philharmonic in this performance of these popular hits. Included on the program are his Septet, op. 20; Piano Trio in C minor, op. 1, no. 3; Duet for Viola and Cello with Two Obbligato Eyeglasses, WoO 32; Sonata in D, op. 6; Violin Sonata in F “Spring,” op. 24; Six Contradances for small orchestra, WoO 14; and the Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat, op. 16, and additional works that Beethoven created during this same period.
Performing on the program are Maestro Christopher Wilkins as conductor and on piano, Tamas Kocsis and Joni Hanze-Bjella, violins; Kenneth Martinson, viola; Jonathan Stilwell, cello; Don-Michael Hill, bass; Jared Hauser, oboe; Sara Shaw, clarinet; Diane Bishop, bassoon; Mark Fischer, horn and Deborah Ayers, piano.
All tickets holders are invited to a pre-concert reception on June 21, which begins at 6:00 PM in the lounge at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center. Light hors d’oeuvres, wine and soft drinks will be served.
Subscriptions to this five-concert series are available in two price levels: Level 1 seating is $150 for adults and $75 for students with valid ID. Level 2 seating is $100 for adults and $50 for students with valid ID. Single tickets go on sale Monday, May 21, 2007. Single tickets are $35 for level 1 seating and $25 for level 2 seating.
