The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Presents Tchaikovsky & Beethoven: Rococo & Eroica

(Orlando, FL – January 24, 2007) - An evening of heroic masterpieces awaits you at The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s upcoming Phil at Carr Series concert, Tchaikovsky & Beethoven: Rococo & Eroica, on Saturday, February 24, 8:00 PM at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando. The concert is sponsored by The University of Central Florida. The Orlando Sentinel is the Title Sponsor for the Phil at Carr Series.

The program features two renowned works. The first is Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations. Its style is inspired by Mozart, the composer’s role model, and makes it clear that Tchaikovsky much admired the Classical style. The second is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, “Eroica,” a work of great emotion that is often cited as the beginning of the Romantic period in music. Its name, “Eroica,” Italian for "Heroic," provides a perfect description for this exuberant and creative work. This program also boasts a work of honored contemporary composer Aaron Jay Kernis, titled Musica celestis. This beautiful work has rapidly become one of the most often performed of new American works.

Performing as soloist is cellist Julie Albers, recognized for her superlative artistry and her charismatic and radiant performing style. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at the XIII Concours International de Jeunes Concertistes, held in Douai, France, and was named the first Gold Medal Laureate of South Korea's Gyeongnam International Music Competition.

Conducting this program is Daniel Hege, widely recognized as one of America's finest young conductors. He has earned critical acclaim for his fresh interpretations of the standard repertoire. Currently in his sixth season as Music Director of the Syracuse Symphony, Hege is also a highly regarded guest conductor throughout the United States and abroad.

Tickets to Tchaikovsky & Beethoven: Rococo & Eroicaare on sale for $13 - $60.  To purchase tickets, phone the Philharmonic’s box office at 407-770-0071 or visit www.orlandophil.org.
