(Orlando, FL – December 19, 2006) – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents The Great Strauss Dynasty, the third concert in the Philharmonic’s Focus Series on Monday, February 5, 2007. The concert takes place in the Margeson Theater in the Lowndes Shakespeare Centre, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando.
Maestro Andrew Lane and the Orlando Philharmonic present this performance of over a half century of waltzes, polkas and marches of the celebrated music of Johann Strauss and his three sons, Johann II, Josef and Eduard.
This chamber orchestra performance is presented in a “theater in the round” environment, giving the audience an intimate concert experience. Maestro Lane, who leads this performance, will provide discourse about the musical works and the members of the Strauss family, providing an educational, as well as a musical experience.
On the program is the music from all of the members of this musical dynasty. Works by Johann Strauss Sr. include Chinese Galop, On Hunting, Fast Polka, and his most famous piece, the Radetzky March.
Johann II is the most famous of the family. He was known in his lifetime as "the waltz king," and the popularity of the waltz in Vienna through the 19th century is due in large part to him. Works performed by him include Emperor Waltz, Du und Du Waltz from Die Fledermaus and Artists Quadrille.
Also on the program are the Fireman’s Polka by Josef Strauss and Carmen Quadrille by Eduard Strauss.
Performing as vocal soloist is soprano Marguerite Krull, who has garnered praise worldwide for roles in both the soprano and the high-lyric mezzo soprano repertory, owing to her wide vocal range. She has performed with numerous operas and symphony orchestras throughout the US, including the National Symphony Orchestra, The New York City Opera, New York Philharmonic, Austin Lyric Opera and Washington Opera.
Tickets to The Great Strauss Dynasty are $26 and $36, and can be purchased by phoning the Orlando Philharmonic’s Box Office at 407-770-0071, or on the Philharmonic’s website at: www.orlandophil.org.
