The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents Classical Masterworks: Mozart & Holst: Celestial Miracles

(Orlando, FL – December 8, 2006) - The Philharmonic presents a musical journey into the cosmos with two musical masterpieces: Mozart’s Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter” and Holst’s The Planets.

The concert, titled Mozart & Holst: Celestial Miracles, takes place on Saturday, January 27 at 8:00 PM at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando.

Maestro Christopher Wilkins conducts this evening of music that showcases the talents of the fabulous Philharmonic musicians.

Always very popular with audiences, The Planets is written in seven movements; one for each of the planets with the exception of Earth. (Written between 1914 and 1916, Pluto had yet to be discovered.) The concept of the work is astrological rather than astronomical, with each movement conveying the emotions and ideas associated with the Roman deities for whom each planet is named. Holst’s use of the orchestra in this work is very imaginative and colorful, and the piece was an instant success at its first performance. It remains the composer’s most popular work; his favorite movement was “Saturn.” Adding to the colorful nature of the work is the Orlando Opera Chorus, who enhances the “Neptune” movement with an off-stage wordless, quiet sound of voices adding an element of mystery to the part.

Nicknamed the “Jupiter” Symphony because of its Olympian grandeur, Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 is the largest and most complex of his symphonies. This composition, which is frequently jovial, remains a favorite with audiences.

Tickets to Mozart & Holst: Celestial Miracles are on sale for $13 - $60.  To purchase tickets, phone the Philharmonic’s box office at 407-770-0071 or visit www.orlandophil.org.

You find this evening of celestial masterworks heavenly!
