Popular Vocalist Davis Gaines Returns to Perform with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra

(Orlando, FL – December 4, 2006) - Popular vocalist Davis Gaines joins the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra for a Big Band concert spectacular! The Big Band Sound of Davis Gaines is held on Saturday, January 20 at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando. Two performances are held to double the fun; one at 2:00 PM and one at 8:00 PM. The Concert Sponsor is the Dr. P. Phillips Foundation. The Orlando Sentinel is the Title Sponsor for the Phil at Carr Series.

This big band extravaganza features Gaines as you’ve never seen him before in this fun-filled family evening of upbeat melodies. Enjoy a variety of big band favorites that are guaranteed to have you humming all the way home! Included are favorites by Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Bobby Darin, Cole Porter, Sammy Cohn, Glen Miller and George Gershwin, along with other beloved favorites from that bygone era.

Conducted by Maestro Andrew Lane, the Philharmonic will boast an enhanced brass section with five saxophones along with extra trombones and trumpets for some kickin’ rhythmic melodies. In a combination of orchestra and vocals, the program features such favorites as Mack the Knife, Come Fly With Me, All The Way, Saturday Night is the Lonliest Night, From This Moment On, Hey Look Me Over and Where or When

The Orlando Philharmonic shines on such pieces as Moonlight Serenade and I Got Rhythm, featuring original symphonic arrangements with a big band feel. Renowned Jazz and Swing Pianist Carol Anderson adds to the rhythm and to the fun with her piano stylings.

Described by The New York Times as “a vocal Superman,” Davis Gaines performed the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera more than 2,000 times, for over five million people, during his run on Broadway, in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where he received the Bay Area Critics’ Award for Best Actor. Subsequently, he was chosen by Hal Prince and Lloyd Webber to play the leading role in the world premiere of Whistle Down the Wind in Washington, D.C. Other Broadway and national tour credits include Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera, Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly! with Carol Channing, Camelot with Richard Burton and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas with Alexis Smith.

Additionally, Gaines has sung for five U.S. Presidents and with every major symphony orchestra in North America, including the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl. He has also performed in cabaret at New York’s ‘Rainbow and Stars,’ Hollywood’s ‘Cinegrill’ and San Francisco’s ‘Plush Room.’ He has two solo CDs on LAP Records, Against the Tide and All My Tomorrows: Songs of Sammy Cahn.

You won’t want to miss this big band concert experience featuring Orlando’s own Davis Gaines. Single tickets are $13, $26, $36, $46 and $60. To purchase tickets, phone the Philharmonic’s box office at 407-770-0071 or visit the Philharmonic’s web site at www.orlandophil.org.
