Orlando, FL – September 14, 2006 – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra invites you to feel the beat with us as renowned Latin jazz musician, Poncho Sanchez, and his Latin Jazz Band join the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra for a night of music with an Afro-Cuban beat on Saturday, October 21 at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando. Two performances of this concert, titled Poncho Sanchez: An Afro-Cuban Adventure, are held, a matinee performance at 2:00 PM and an evening performance at 8:00 PM. The concert is sponsored by Massey Services, Inc. The artist sponsor is the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando. The title sponsor of the Phil at Carr Series is Orlando Sentinel Communications.
Maestro Andrew Lane leads this electric performance of Afro-Cuban melodies. Included on the program are such favorites as Abreu’s Tico Tico and Hancock’s Watermelon Man.
“Call it Latin Jazz, Cubob, buga-loo, jazz-funk or whatever but master conguero Poncho Sanchez has perfected the union of Afro-Cuban polyrhythms and jazz melodies.” Winner of a Grammy and three-time Grammy-nominee, Sanchez is a storyteller and his congas do the talking. His inspiration comes from the conga playing of Cuban great Mongo Santamaria, and today, Sanchez is the leader of the most popular Latin jazz group in the world!
