The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Celebrates The Seasons at its Focus Series

Orlando, FL – September 8, 2006 –The Orlando Philharmonic’s acclaimed Focus Series kicks-off a new season on Monday, October 16.  This season, the concerts take place on Monday evenings and the series expands to four concerts, all taking place at 7:00 PM in the Margeson Theater of the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando.

New this season, the programs of the Focus Series put the “focus” on musical themes and feature the works of a variety of composers, rather than concentrating on just one, all the while highlighting the best of the chamber orchestra repertoire in an interesting "theater-in-the-round" setting.

The series begins on October 16 with a program titled The Seasons, a musical celebration inspired by the changes in nature.  Maestro Christopher Wilkins hosts this program featuring a kaleidoscope of works.

“Music itself is seasonal, with its own rhythm and cycles, growing from musical seeds, developing, ebbing, and rejuvenating constantly,” says Wilkins, who will add an educational element to the concert with discourse on the composers and their works throughout the program.

Musical selections include Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, Delius’ Summer Night on a River, and Respighi’s Spring from Trittico Botticelliano.

Philharmonic Concertmaster Tamas Kocsis takes center stage as soloist in a number of works including Vivaldi’s Autumn from The Four Seasons, Piazzolla’s Invierno porteño (Winter Buenos Aires Style) and Verano porteño (Summer Buenos Aires Style).

Also featured in this seasonal celebration are Soprano Marci Richardson, who performs George Benjamin’s A Mind of Winter, and Baritone Michael Hix, who performs Haydn’s Pointer Aria from The Seasons.

Subscriptions and single tickets are presently on sale, and can be purchased by phone at 407-770-0071, or on line at www.orlandophil.org.  Subscriptions to this four-concert series are $120 for Level 1 seating and $80 for Level 2 seating.  Single tickets are $36 for Level 1 seating and $26 for Level 2 seating.
The Orlando Philharmonic’s Focus Series continues with Handel’s Messiah on December 4, 2006; The Great Strauss Dynasty on February 5, 2007 and Water Music on March 12, 2007.   For further information, phone 407-770-0071 or visit www.orlandophil.org.
