Orlando Philharmonic Performs at Casa de Mexico Fundraiser

(Orlando, FL – September 1, 2006) –Casa de Mexico, a non-profit organization, promotes the culture and traditions of Mexico in Central Florida. However, it has an even greater mission – helping  Mexican farm workers and laborers, especially women and children, in the areas of  health and education.

Casa de  Mexico has no budget. The group relies on the generosity of its board of directors and business partners. Even with the donation of time, effort and supplies, Casa de Mexico still has many expenses it incurs to care for the workers. For this reason, they hold an annual gala – the Gala of Mexican Independence Concert. This year, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra will perform with them  in this fundraiser on September 16, 2006, 8:00 p.m, at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, located at 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando.

The Orlando Philharmonic will entertain guests with the national anthems of the United States and  Mexico, Rossini’s William Tell Overture and much more. Proceeds will benefit Casa de Mexico.

Featured performers include renowned violin soloist Cuauhtemoc Rivera, who will perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, op. 35, in D major with the Orchestra and the famed Mariachi Cobre, who will perform several pieces, including Granada and Popurri a Jalisco.

Mariachi music is a vital part of the Mexican culture and there is no group that does it better than the Mariachi Cobre. This critically acclaimed ensemble has collaborated with international artists like Alison Kraus and Julio Iglesias. The Cobre, who call Orlando home, recently recorded and toured with the Boston Pops. Since 1982, this popular group has performed for crowds at EPCOT’s Mexico Pavillon.

Tickets are $25, $45, and $75. For ticket information, contact the Orlando Philharmonic Box Office at (407) 770-0071, Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.com or Casa de Mexico at (407) 420-6896.
