The Orlando Philharmonic Celebrates Financial Growth and Stability

Orlando, FL – August 25, 2006 –The Board of Directors of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra proudly announces a balanced $2.7 million budget with a modest surplus for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006.  This marks the thirteenth consecutive year that the Philharmonic has balanced its budget, for every year of its existence.

Contributing the Philharmonic’s success is its earned income through increased concert performances.  The Philharmonic reports a 61% earned income ratio for the 2005 – 2006 season, much greater than the American Symphony Orchestra League standard of 43%.  Since the 1999-2000 season, the number of major series concerts has increased from 7 to 16 per year, and paid attendance has grown from 10,400 in 1999 –2000 to 30,000 people this past season.

Philanthropic gifts, those being from individuals, foundations and corporations, continue to be a source of pride for the Philharmonic.  Individual contributions, via the 2005 United Arts campaign, exceeded $300,000, surpassing all other local and more established arts organizations.

“More and more, sponsors are realizing that the marketing association with the Philharmonic represents a ‘win-win’ environment,” says David Schillhammer, Executive Director.  “Additionally, many local and regional foundations are choosing to support the Philharmonic’s educational and community service activities, furthering our reach in the Central Florida community.”

As a testament to the future stability of the Philharmonic, its endowment grows simultaneously with its operating budget.  Thanks to generous contributions from local arts patrons, the endowment currently stands at about $4 million.

“As the Orlando Philharmonic's programs and services continue to evolve and expand, it is gratifying to know that the community's support, by both purchasing tickets and expressing philanthropy, is growing simultaneously, says Schillhammer.  “Our commitment to financial stability has been, and will continue to be, unwavering.   The musicians, staff, board and volunteers all comprehend this significance, especially in the Central Florida community, to achieve equilibrium each and every year.   I express appreciation to those work diligently internally, as well as to those externally who enjoy the Philharmonic as part of their lives.”
