Orlando, FL – July 6, 2006 – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents Tales from the Vienna Coffee House, the fourth concert in the 2006 Sounds of Summer Series, on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at 7:00 PM. The concert takes place at Harry P. Leu Gardens, 1920 N. Forest Avenue, Orlando, in the air-conditioned comfort of the Garden House.
What happens when Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss and Kreisler get together for coffee? Find out in this light-hearted concert romp that showcases the music of some of the greatest master composers that ever lived in the city of Vienna. Tales From the Vienna Coffee House includes light classical "Bon-Bons" performed by chamber groups varying in size from a string trio to a small chamber orchestra.
"The premise for the program is to capture the charm and lightheartedness of a chamber parlor," says show creator Douglas Pritchard. "We will feature the music of the greatest composers that ever lived in Vienna, from the late Baroque period through the Classical period and into the early Romantic era."
Highlights from the show include Mozart’s Duo for Violin and Viola, Fritz Kreisler's Shon Rosmarin, Liebesfreud and Liebeslied, and music from Franz Lehar's Merry Widow, with vocal soloists.
Performing on the program are Julia Gessinger, Tamas Kocsis, Victor Feroni and Olga Feroni, violins; Douglas Pritchard, viola; Maureen May, cello; Sara Shaw, clarinet; Mark Fischer, French horn; Mark Goldberg, percussion and Martin Gross, leader of the renowned "Sonnenschein Express" from Epcot Center's German Pavilion, trumpet; in addition to additional musicians and vocal soloists.
The show also includes narration and acting, with sets provided by the Orlando-UCF Shakespeare Festival, and even some comedy and multimedia surprises.
"I wanted to show the Orlando audiences the fun and charm that can be experienced from the music of this period. I also wanted to give the audience something they have never experienced in a summer concert before," says Pritchard. "This is why we have combined some sets and actors and singers to help set the stage... I didn't just want to give the audience a ticket to a show, but a passport to a whole bygone era of romance, style and grace."
Tickets are presently on sale and are $30 for adults and $15 for students with valid ID. To purchase tickets, phone the Philharmonic at 407-770-0071. Tickets are also available at the door on the evening of the performance, subject to availability, and on line at www.orlandophil.org. Each year, the concerts in this popular series sell out, so be sure to get your tickets early.
