Orlando, FL – June 12, 2006 - The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra sizzles with a program of Latin-themed music at the second program in the 2006 Sounds of Summer series, titled Symphony Salsa: Hot & Latin Love Themes. The concert takes place on Thursday, July 6, 7:00 PM at Harry P. Leu Gardens, 1920 N. Forest Avenue, Orlando in the air-conditioned comfort of the Garden House.
Philharmonic musician and composer Daniel Flick has assembled this program of popular Latin-style favorites along with an original Latin dance suite of his own composition. “This program is a celebration of vibrant rhythms and passionate energies,” says Flick.
The program is divided into two parts. The first half of the program encompasses Latin melodies from Rodrigo to the modern jazz giant Chick Corea. The second half of the program is the premier of Flick’s original Latin dance suite, which highlights the many Latin musical styles including rumba, salsa, tango, flamenco, bossa nova and samba.
“My desire to write this show came from the fact that I’ve always been drawn to the incredible rhythmic precision and energy of Latin music, combined with the most passionate melodies,” he explains.
Featured in Flick’s suite are Spanish dance performances by Leticia Jimenez and Juan F. Espinoza. Jiminez, who has studied dance since age 4, has toured all over the United States as well as Mexico, South America, Puerto Rico, and Europe, and has toured with such companies as Boston Flamenco Ballet and La Compania de Arte Espanol as a soloist. Espinoza learned Classic Spanish dance at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, and has been part of many different companies in Spain including Luisillo Spain Ballet Theater, in which he toured different cities of Europe and Japan.
The program features Flick on guitar, mandolin, violin and viola. Also performing are Philharmonic musicians Julia Gessinger, violin; Barbara George, cello; Aaron Goldman, flute; Thomas Macklin, trumpet; Mark Goldberg, percussion; and Bobby Brennon, bass.
Come and enjoy an evening of passionate Latin-style music in this world-premiere performance!
