Orlando, FL – February 20, 2006 – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra proudly presents Broadway at The Springs, an outdoor concert featuring the Orlando Philharmonic performing on a stage built right on the beautiful body of water known as Sanlando Springs. The concert is held on Saturday, May 20, 2006, at The Springs Community, SR 434, one mile west of I-4, in Longwood. Gates open at 5:00 PM. The concert begins at 8:00 PM. The Philharmonic is pleased to continue this annual concert tradition, which, in the 1980’s, was considered the most popular concert of the year and a social event not to miss. At last year’s concert at The Springs, both lawn seating and the VIP area sold out, making it clear to the Orlando Philharmonic that this is an event the community has once again embraced.

Broadway at The Springs features Maestro Hal France conducting the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in a program of contemporary Broadway favorites. This is a very special opportunity to experience Maestro France’s charismatic style, as he completes his tenure as the Philharmonic’s Music Director at the end of this concert season. Maestro France has been instrumental in building the success of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra during his tenure, and his enthusiasm for conducting Broadway at The Springs will create a very special evening not to be missed.
Adding to the excitement is Broadway veteran Connie Kunkle, whose dynamic style and fabulous voice has made her a favorite with audiences throughout Central Florida. The featured vocalist on numerous pieces throughout the concert program, Kunkle, who was voted “Best Local Entertainer” by readers of Orlando Magazine in their “Best Of” issue, splits her time between New York and Orlando. Her career started at Walt Disney World, but was soon wooed to New York City by Radio City Music Hall to star in Encore. Soon after, she made her mark on Broadway in Singin’ In the Rain, and then went on to play various roles in Les Miserables, including Fantine. Connie also starred as the Narrator opposite Donny Osmond in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Additionally, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber personally selected her for The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, In Concert.
Set on a floating stage, the full 56-piece orchestra performs this 2-hour Broadway at The Springs concert with one intermission. The orchestra is sponsored by CED Companies. Ms. Kunkle’s appearance is sponsored by Middleton Lawn & Pest Control.
Patrons are invited to bring blankets and picnics and enjoy a fabulous evening of music with friends and family. Alcoholic beverages are permitted for patrons 21 and older. Lawn seating is on a first come first served basis.
