(Orlando,
FL – September 29, 2005) – The
Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents the second
concert in the 2005 – 2006 Phil at Carr Series, That’ll
Be the Day: A Buddy Holly Tribute, on
Saturday, October 22, 2005. Two performances
will be held - a matinee at 2:00 PM and an evening
performance at 8:00 PM at the Bob Carr Performing
Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando. The
concert is sponsored by Massey Services, Inc. The
title sponsor of the Phil at Carr Series is Orlando
Sentinel Communications.
The Buddy Holly Rave On Band joins Maestro Hal France
and the Orlando Philharmonic for this feel good blast
from the past performance of some of the greatest hits
of Buddy Holly and his band, the Crickets. Audiences
will enjoy such classic hits as That’ll Be
The Day, Maybe Baby, Peggy Sue Got Married and Words
of Love, in addition to other favorite Holly classics.
Buddy Holly influenced generations of musicians with
his lyrics, songwriting style, and recording studio
production techniques. His music and talent have struck
a chord with younger generations who are still in love
with his music. Since his sudden death in a 1959 plane
crash, referred to in the hit song American Pie by
Don McLean as, “the day the music died,” popular
artists from the Beatles to Bob Dylan have paid him
tribute.
Starring as Buddy Holly is Billy McGuigan, who has
received national acclaim for his portrayals of the
legendary Buddy Holly. Audiences continue to
be awed by his realism, sincerity and talent. McGuigan’s
interpretation of Buddy Holly has taken him all over
the United States. He has appeared in over 80
performances of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story in
the past three years to critical acclaim.
For this stellar symphonic performance, Rave On! Musical
Director Chris Acker has created stunning arrangements
combining the original feel with contemporary flares. Audiences
will be sure to enjoy this energetic rock ‘n
roll evening of classic favorites – complete
with a great dance beat!
