The Orlando Philharmonic Opens the 2005 – 2006 Darden Family Series with Music in the Movies

(Orlando, FL – September 7, 2005) – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra takes a musical trip to the movies for the first program in the 2005 - 2006 Darden Family Series, titled Music in the Movies. The program is held on Sunday, October 23 at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando. The Darden Family Series is sponsored by Darden Restaurants Foundation. Media Sponsors for the Darden Family Series are WFTV 9 Family Connection and Orlando Sentinel Communications.

The programs in this award-winning series are designed to demystify the world of classical music for children of all ages with concert experiences that are as educational as they are entertaining. The program begins at 2:00 PM with a variety of pre-concert interactive activities, including instrument petting zoos, the popular conducting station, movie games and more.

The concert begins at 3:00 PM, featuring a fun-filled program conducted by Principal Pops and Resident Conductor Andrew Lane.  Filled with sights and sounds, the audience is invited to clap and sing along to their favorite songs. Complete with video screens and movie clips, the program highlights music’s important role in the enjoyment of movies - how it depicts the film’s mood, emphasizes emotions and enhances the overall enjoyment of the movie. The Philharmonic will have some fun with movies as they perform different styles of music to the same movie scene – to emphasize how the music changes the feeling of the clip.

Featured on the program are scenes from the popular new movie Tugger, the Jeep that Wanted to Fly, which was produced in Orlando. Composer Greg Sims, who wrote the music to the movie, joins the Philharmonic to explain what ideas he had when composing the music with a lighthearted demonstration.  Also featured on the program is music from Harry Potter, William Tell and Star Wars - with a surprise visit from a Star Wars character!

Come and enjoy this musical trip to the movies! Filled with fun, excitement and laughter, audiences young and old will be sure to enjoy this family friendly concert experience.

Subscriptions to the three-concert Darden Family Series are $21 for children and $36 for adults.  Subscriber families receive a fun-filled activity pack to learn more about each concert in the series. Single tickets are $8 for children and $15 for adults. To order tickets, phone 407-770-0071, or visit the Philharmonic’s website at www.orlandophil.org. Seats are assigned as general admission and are filled from front to back as orders are received.
