(Orlando, FL – June 16, 2005) – The
Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents the second
program in its 2005 Sounds of Summer Series, titled Traveling
Music. The program takes place
on Thursday, July 7, 7:00 PM at Harry P. Leu Gardens,
1920 N. Forest Avenue, Orlando, in the air-conditioned
comfort of the Garden House.
Travel
the globe with the Orlando Philharmonic Winds as they
present a program of musical styles of diverse locations
throughout the world. Visit the sweltering
jazz clubs of Havana as they perform Aires Tropicales,
by Paquito D'Rivera. This exotic piece also takes
us to the jungles of Africa where we will hear an African
tribal dance. The Winds take us to Denmark to
explore Tivoli Park and see the windmills as they perform
Carl Nielsen’s Quintet. Visit
the historic city of Budapest and visualize the ornate
cathedrals and the popular hot spas of Hungary as the
Winds perform Ligeti’s Sech Bagatellen. This
musical journey continues to the romantic city of Paris,
where we explore the City of Light as we listen to
Françaix’s Quintet No. 1.
Comprising
the Philharmonic Winds are Tina Burr, Flute; Jared
Hauser, Oboe; Jeanne Heinze, Clarinet; Diane Bishop,
Bassoon and Mark Fischer, Horn.
Tickets are presently on sale and are $30 for adults
and $15 for students with valid ID. To purchase
tickets, phone the Philharmonic at 407-770-0071. Tickets
are also available at the door on the evening of the
performance, subject to availability, and on line at
www.orlandophil.org. Each year, the concerts
in this popular series sell out, so be sure to get
your tickets early.
