The afternoon begins at 2:00 PM with a variety of pre-concert,
hands-on activities designed to give participants a
unique and entertaining musical learning experience.
With the help of Philharmonic musicians, you can try
your hand at a variety of instruments from the orchestra,
including an assortment of diverse percussion instruments
to help you get into the rhythm! Be sure to step up
to the podium and see what it is like to be the conductor
of the orchestra. Radio Disney will be on hand for some
dancing and fun. Many other activities await you on
your musical journey into the variations in rhythm.
At 3:00 PM, the concert begins as the classic George
Gershwin tune, I’ve Got Rhythm, is featured in
two separate arrangements - both featuring the percussion
section of the orchestra, to highlight the elements
of rhythm in music. The program also features trombonist
Jeffrey Thomas performing with Thomas Macklin on trumpet
for some lighthearted musical fun. Enjoy the lively
and fun Hoe Down from "Rodeo" and Danzon Cubano
by Aaron Copland, as well as a performance of a variety
of music from around the world to highlight the variations
of rhythm and how they affect music. Mid-way through
the performance, the music will pause to allow audience
members an opportunity to take part in a “Question
and Answer Period,” where they can ask questions
to the musicians, conductor, and the guest artist, Willis
Delony, providing a highlighted learning experience.
