Orlando, FL – October 7, 2004
- The Orlando Philharmonic presents the second program
in the 2004 – 2005 Phil at Carr Series, Richard
Rodgers Spectacular. This entertaining program
highlights the music of Richard Rodgers, one of America’s
most talented and prolific composers, whose hits ranged
from the silver screens of Hollywood to the bright lights
of Broadway and London. Richard Rodgers Spectacular
is scheduled for Saturday, November 6. Two performances
will be held - a matinee at 2:00 PM and an evening performance
at 8:00 PM at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401
W. Livingston Street, Orlando. With a huge Broadway
chorus and Broadway performers joining some of Orlando's
headliners, these concerts are sure to be audience favorites.
The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Orlando
Philharmonic Orchestra. The title sponsor for the season
is Orlando Sentinel Communications. The Broadcast Sponsor
for the Phil at Carr Series is WKMG Local 6.
During his lifetime, Richard Rodgers wrote more than
900 published songs and forty Broadway musicals. With
a career spanning six decades and more than fifty stage
and screen musicals, Rodgers and his songs remain key
elements in the world's musical vocabulary.
Having such a multitude of masterpieces to choose
from, Philharmonic Music Director Hal France has assembled
a program that features many of the most beloved melodies
of Rodgers and Hammerstein and Rodgers and Hart, including
music from Carousel, The King and I, Oklahoma, Sound
of Music, South Pacific and much more. Enjoy such favorites
as Something Wonderful, Johnny One Note, There Ain't
Nothing Like A Dame, You'll Never Walk Alone, Oklahoma,
Sound of Music, Carousel Waltz and many more unforgettable
songs from one of our greatest national treasures, Richard
Rodgers.
Adding to the splendor of the program is the 270-voice
Stetson University Choral Union, under the direction
of Duncan Couch.
Guest soloists are all notable talents from the Broadway
and operatic stage, including Merwin Foard, Broadway
baritone; Kirstin Chavez, mezzo soprano; Jill Anderson,
Broadway vocalist; and Jeanette Zilioli, soprano.
Tickets to both performances are presently on sale
for $12, $25, $35, $45 and $55. (Students with valid
ID receive half price tickets in select areas.) Season
subscriptions are also available, with choices of three
through nine concert packages. Subscription prices range
