- Tavares, Florida -- Performing Arts of Lake and Sumter
(PALS) is proud to present the first annual “Pops”
concert on the afternoon of Sunday, October 17th in
Tavares. “POPS at the POINT” will feature
the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra playing a variety
of selections from multiple American composers at Lake
County’s beautiful Hickory Point recreational
park. Guest artist, Tzimon Barto, world-renowned pianist
and Lake County’s native son, will be performing
with the Orlando Philharmonic during the day’s
grand finale.
The afternoon event will begin with pre-concert activities
at 2:00 p.m. and the Orlando Philharmonic will perform
from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Families or individuals are encouraged
to pre-order BBQ Civitan chicken dinners or bring their
own picnic baskets, blankets, and lawn chairs to make
this fall concert a memorable occasion for all ages.
During the pre-concert activities the Orlando Philharmonic,
with the assistance of the Central Florida Youth Orchestra,
will conduct a hands on interactive “instrument
petting zoo” to familiarize concert goers with
a variety of musical instruments and encourage a greater
knowledge of the art of music.
The event will be located in the heart of Lake County
at the Lake County Water Authority’s Hickory Point.
Hickory Point is a 68-acre multi-use waterfront recreational
park situated in Tavares, Florida on State Road 19 adjacent
to Little Lake Harris and is two miles northwest of
Howey-in-the-Hills.
Tickets may be purchased at the gate or at the Lake-Sumter
Community College Bookstores; the Lake County Welcome
Center, US Hwy. 27 in Groveland; Bacchus Vino Etcetera,
in Clermont; or the PALS office. Tickets are $20 for
adults and $10 for youths 12 and older. Children under
age 12 and accompanied by an adult will be admitted
free.
Civitan will be offering BBQ chicken dinners for $5.00
to those who pre-order. The BBQ dinners must be ordered
on or before October 1st and may be picked up at the
