All American Pops Concert Event Coming to Tavares - Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Native Artist to Perform

Tavares, FL – August 30, 2004 - Tavares, Florida -- Performing Arts of Lake and Sumter (PALS) is proud to present the first annual “Pops” concert on the afternoon of Sunday, October 17th in Tavares. “POPS at the POINT” will feature the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra playing a variety of selections from multiple American composers at Lake County’s beautiful Hickory Point recreational park. Guest artist, Tzimon Barto, world-renowned pianist and Lake County’s native son, will be performing with the Orlando Philharmonic during the day’s grand finale.

The afternoon event will begin with pre-concert activities at 2:00 p.m. and the Orlando Philharmonic will perform from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Families or individuals are encouraged to pre-order BBQ Civitan chicken dinners or bring their own picnic baskets, blankets, and lawn chairs to make this fall concert a memorable occasion for all ages. During the pre-concert activities the Orlando Philharmonic, with the assistance of the Central Florida Youth Orchestra, will conduct a hands on interactive “instrument petting zoo” to familiarize concert goers with a variety of musical instruments and encourage a greater knowledge of the art of music.

The event will be located in the heart of Lake County at the Lake County Water Authority’s Hickory Point. Hickory Point is a 68-acre multi-use waterfront recreational park situated in Tavares, Florida on State Road 19 adjacent to Little Lake Harris and is two miles northwest of Howey-in-the-Hills.

Tickets may be purchased at the gate or at the Lake-Sumter Community College Bookstores; the Lake County Welcome Center, US Hwy. 27 in Groveland; Bacchus Vino Etcetera, in Clermont; or the PALS office.
