Orlando, FL – August 9, 2004
- The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents the first
concert in the 2004 - 2005 Focus Series, titled Mendelssohn,
on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. The concert takes place
at 7:00 PM in the Margeson Theater of the Lowndes Shakespeare
Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando. The Media Sponsor
is The Orlando Sentinel.
The concerts in the Focus Series highlight the best
of the chamber orchestra repertoire in an interesting
“in the round” setting, bringing the audience
right into the action. This exciting series features
the talented musicians of the Philharmonic along with
guest soloists and a lineup of enduring classics. Each
program is devoted to the life and works of a single
composer and includes a fresh and entertaining look
at what makes that composer great.
Hal France, Music Director of the Orlando Philharmonic,
conducts and hosts this first program, where he will
look inside Mendelssohn’s vibrant 4th Symphony,
the Italian. First performed in 1833, the Symphony No.
4 is Mendelssohn’s most popular symphony. The
program is highlighted with insight from Maestro France
as he poses the question, “what might we still
get from Mendelssohn in the 21st century?”
Subscriptions and single tickets to the Focus Series
are presently on sale. A three-concert subscription
to the Focus Series is available for $72 and $56. Single
tickets are $32 and $25. To purchase tickets, phone
the Philharmonic’s Box Office at 407/896-6700,
or visit the Philharmonic’s website at www.orlandophil.org.
This program is also being presented at the Community
Presbyterian Church, 511 Celebration Avenue, Celebration,
on Friday, September 17 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $20
in advance and $25 at the door. To order tickets, phone
the Celebration Foundation at 407-566-1234.

19 at 4:00 PM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 2021
West SR 426, Oviedo. Admission to this performance is
