| Principal Clarinet
Born in Hannibal, Missouri, clarinetist Sara Shaw began her musical studies at age 5 playing the piano, and later at age 11 she began playing the clarinet. In the spring of 2000, Sara was appointed second clarinet of The Orlando Philharmonic and assumed her duties in the orchestra in the fall of 2000. Sara assumed the position of Principal Clarinet beginning with the 2006-2007 season. Before coming to Orlando, she held a position as second clarinet of The Illinois Symphony for one year and clarinet instructor for The St. Louis Symphony Music School for two years.
In addition to her work with The Orlando Philharmonic, Sara has performed with The Savannah Symphony, The Florida West Coast Symphony in Sarasota, The Brevard Symphony, The Bronx Opera Orchestra, and The Dicapo Opera Orchestra in NY.
Sara has been the recipient of a number of awards and honors during her career including a fellowship from The Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Lubeck, Germany. A graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, she received her master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music where she was a member of the Orchestral Performance Program and a student of Ricardo Morales, currently principal clarinet of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
