| Singer/Bandleader/Actor/Producer
For two years, Michael Andrew was the headline singer and bandleader at the world famous Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center in New York City where he entertained audiences nightly and hosted a live Radio Broadcast, "Live from the Rainbow Room." He was the band-leader and singer at Merv Griffin's "Coconut Club" in The Beverly Hilton in California. While on "Larry King Live," Merv called Michael Andrew "one of the great singers of all time."
A frequent symphonic pops guest artist, Michael has performed with Symphonic orchestras in Akron, Albuquerque, Houston, Long Beach, Missoula, Orlando, Providence, San Antonio, Sarasota, Palm Beach, and other cities across America.
His self-written musicals, Mickey Swingerhead & The Earthgirls and The Johnny Mercer Radio Hour were both hits with audiences and with the press. Michael has performed in several theatrical productions in Orlando including Mad Cow's "Archy And Mehitabel" (as Archy), and the "Kiss Me, Kate" (as Bill Calhoun) at The Orlando Shakespeare Theater where he has also written original music for several of their productions.
His 18-Piece Big Band, The Atomic Big Band, is modeled after the Count Basie Orchestra and has performed in Hollywood for movie premiers and is a favorite at festivals and concerts. Michael, The Atomic Big Band, and the Park Avenue Dancers will be performing this December at The Plaza Theatre in Orlando.
In 2004, Michael wrote and starred in a musical comedy adaptation of Jerry Lewis' classic 1963 movie The Nutty Professor at the Orlando International Fringe Festival. This has led to a collaboration with Jerry Lewis to develop The Nutty Professor into a Broadway bound musical.
Michael Andrew's hit show, "Mickey Swingerhead & The Earthgirls," led to the formation of his band, Swingerhead, which has toured extensively throughout the country and held several steady engagements throughout Central Florida.
In 1997, after playing on a month of Monday Nights at Disney's Atlantic Dance at Walt Disney World's Boardwalk Resort, Swingerhead was invited to play 6 nights a week. A year later they became the house band at a club created for them in downtown Orlando called "Rat Pack's On The Avenue." Between the steady engagements and touring, Swingerhead played over 300 dates a year in 1998 and 1999. They were invited to play steadily by Merv Griffin at his Nightclub, "The Coconut Club". In 2000 and 2001, because of the popularity of the band, Andrew formed Swingerhead West and flew weekly between the west coast and east coast joining his bands on either coast.
The roster of talented musicians that have been part of Swingerhead over the years has changed, however, the caliber of players and spirit of enthusiasm to make great swingin' music has not. Appearing today and tonight with Swingerhead are:
David MacKenzie (Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Clarinet)
Doug Spoonamore (Alto Sax, Tenor Sax)
Don Johnson (Trumpet)
Rick Abbott (Trombone)
Kevin Palacky (Guitar)
Bobby Brennan (Bass)
Paul Parker (Drums)
Christian Tamburr (Vibraphone/Percussion)
